PROGRESS REPORT ON THE SIGNATURE DRIVE FOR OUR $30 TABS INITIATIVE: solid momentum, we got 202,172 sigs in past 3 months, we have 5 months to reach 350,000 total by the deadline (end of December)

Last year at this time, we had zero signatures for our $30 Tabs Initiative.

PC: Renton Reporter

This year, by starting 3 months earlier, we’ve given ourselves a huge head start.
Earlier today in Olympia at the Secretary of State’s office, we announced that we’ve reached 202,172 signatures. All the other initiatives turned in their signatures because today (July 6) was their deadline. But our deadline is the end of December.
So that means we’re still going AND WE NEED EVERYONE’S HELP TO GET THIS OVER THE FINISH LINE.

On Monday, we will share a bunch of photos from today’s event in Olympia.

I implore you to donate today. Email me and order petitions today. Keep collecting signatures. Keep mailing in your petitions to the PO Box on the back of the petitions (PO Box 18250, Spokane, WA, 99228).
Today was a really helpful fire drill.
Taxpayers are getting ripped off. Skyrocketing car tab taxes are happening because of a blatantly dishonest vehicle valuation schedule that artificially inflates the taxes we’re being forced to pay. And state and local politicians know it’s happening and yet they’re refusing to pass a law to address this injustice. Even their baby-step proposals only nibble around the edges, none of their unpassed bills actually fix the problem.
Our $30 Tabs Initiative completely repeals that unfair vehicle valuation schedule. Under I-976, no longer will vehicles be taxed on their value. Instead, we’ll all pay just a flat, fair, and reasonable $30 per year to register/renew our vehicle registration. The initiative gets rid of numerous taxes and fees, including:
* Vehicle weight fees imposed by state government.
* Per-vehicle fees imposed by cities.
* All car tab taxes imposed by Sound Transit.

After I-976 passes, you’ll pay just $30 a year to get that stupid sticker you put on your license plate.

When voters passed our 1999 and 2002 $30 tabs initiatives, we got ourselves about a decade of tax relief. But in recent years, state and local governments have gone on a rampage, because they figure voters have forgotten about those earlier votes. But taxpayers haven’t forgotten. They’re ready to fight back. But that’s only possible if we qualify our initiative.

We fell short in 2016. We fell short again last year.

If we fail again, state and local governments are gonna see it as a green light to indiscriminately impose even more taxes, fees, tolls, and per-mile charges on vehicles. It’ll be like pigs at the trough.
Again, let’s maximize our signature count this week. Right now, please donate, order petitions, collect sigs, mail in petitions, and help us score a victory for taxpayers.
